Southern Minnesota Area Property

Southwest Minnesota is a vast prairieland where buffalo once roamed. It’s full of quaint and historic small towns and farmers working their fields. Mix in some college towns and a nice variety of lakes and rivers (including the mighty Minnesota River) and you’ve got an often-overlooked chance at some affordable vacation properties.

Notable towns in this region include Montevideo, Mankato, Luverne, Worthington, Marshall, New Ulm, Albert Lea, Austin, Owatonna, Faribault, Northfield, and Waseca.

Southeast Minnesota is also known as the “Driftless Area” because it was spared a glacial bulldozing during the last ice age. The landscape here is not duplicated anywhere else in the state—on the western edge you’ll find gently rolling farmland, but the landscape gets more vertical and dramatic as you head east toward the Mississippi. Towering limestone bluffs along the Mississippi make for great hiking and beautiful vistas with numerous eagle watching opportunities.

Hunters love the Driftless area as it is known for big bucks. The area also has a large Amish population, so a trip there can be a great way to step back in time.

Notable towns in the Driftless Area include Rochester, Red Wing, Lake City, Wabasha, Kellogg, Winona, La Crescent, Lanesboro (a well-regarded small art community), and Caledonia (the wild turkey capital of Minnesota).
